- Vodafone launches E-Moni Mobile Money Transfer service
Vodafone Cook Islands is launching E-Moni - the first Mobile Money service in the Cook Islands. E-Moni is mobile phone technology that enables the transfer or money exchange of electronic value (e-value) . This service will enable Vodafone customers nationwide to use their prepay or postpay mobile service as a mobile money account to facilitate deposits, withdrawals, send funds to other mobile subscribers, top-ups and bill payments. Further development of features and benefits are in the pipeline that will include purchasing prepay data bundles, utility payments, payments for goods and services, QR code payments, and international remittance where you can receive funds from overseas. With the increased drive towards a cashless economy globally, the trend and growth in the usage of mobile payment services and apps has increased rapidly over the years. Vodafone Fiji first launched mobile money services in the pacific with M-Paisa back in 2010. This service was introduced to enable the ‘unbanked’ and geographically isolated population in Fiji to access financial and money services using mobile phone based technology. This service has developed over the years to now be the ‘norm’ in payments of goods and services, international remittance and sending and receiving funds. Whilst Mobile Money is well known on the global scale, it is now making a presence in the pacific region with Vodafone Samoa and Vodafone Vanuatu also launching their respective mobile money services in the last year. Vodafone’s E-Moni service is fully licensed and regulated by the Financial Services Commission. “We are very pleased to launch the first mobile money service in the Cook Islands enabling our customers in Rarotonga and the Pa Enua to send and receive funds using mobile technology. We saw a need particularly with cost effectively sending and receiving funds nationally. Mobile money is a proven fast, safe and convenient way to enable this for our customers and this fills a gap when Western Union ceased services to the Pa Enua.“ says Phillip Henderson CEO, Vodafone Cook Islands. Registration for E-Moni service is free, simply visit any Vodafone office in the Cook Islands and register your mobile number and details with a Photo ID. A confirmation text message with activation key number will be sent to your mobile number. Download the E-Moni App to activate your account. All registrations up to the end of March will go into the draw to win a Samsung S6 Tablet. To start using your account, simply make a deposit into your E-Moni account at any Vodafone office in the Cook Islands to kick start your digital money journey. Digital television (DTV) is a new type of broadcasting technology that is transforming television as we know it. By transmitting information as ‘data bits’ (like a computer) to create a TV set’s picture and sound, a digital broadcaster can carry far more information than what analog broadcast technology currently allows. The difference between analog and digital broadcasting is similar to that between compact disc and cassette tapes. Digital TV offers a better viewing experience with vastly improved picture and sound quality. DTV is also more efficient than analog TV technology, so broadcasters will be able to produce additional channels of programming using digital broadcasting technology. What is analog television?
